What is Hyperthyroid?

Are you are losing weight or sweating excessively these days? You might be suffering from hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is a condition of the thyroid gland where there is excessive production of the thyroid hormone. This article will explain what is Hyperthyroidism? Causes of Hyperthyroidism? and what is the best homeopathic treatment for Hyperthyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism is a state where thyrotoxicosis occurs because of sustained overproduction of thyroid hormones. Hyperthyroidism is often referred to as an 'overactive thyroid' is when the thyroid gland secretes an excessive amount of thyroid hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and/or free thyroxin (T4). Hyperthyroidism causes an increase in the metabolic rate and an increased sympathetic activity of the nervous system

In hyperthyroidism, there is an increase in FT4 and a decrease in the TSH levels. Some people may have a normal T4 level but elevated T3 levels.

Causes of hyperthyroidism

  • Graves disease
  • Toxic nodular goiter
  • Toxic adenoma
  • Iodine induced
  • Trophoblastic tumor
  • Thyrotropinoma- increased secretion of TSH
  • Subacute thyroiditis
  • Postpartum thyroiditis
  • Ectopic thyroid tissue

Postpartum thyroiditis

Postpartum Thyroiditis Is a phenomenon observed following pregnancy and may involve hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, or the two sequentially. The first phase is typically hyperthyroidism. Then, the thyroid either returns to normal or a woman develops hypothyroidism.

This condition is commonly undiagnosed by physicians due to either unfamiliarity with the disease, the subtly of symptoms. Usual screening begins with assessing the thyroid-stimulating hormone  (TSH) level. If the TSH levels are low, it indicates a hyperthyroid phase. It should be further investigated for Grave's Diases.
